Jennifer Slattery knows firsthand what life on the streets is like. She knows firsthand the struggles that come from being married to someone who doesn’t share your passion for Christ and His calling on your life. Thanks to God’s grace, though, she also knows the joy that comes from having a spouse come to Christ and then serve alongside you on the faith journey.

In her debut release, Beyond I Do, she writes from the passion and experience of her past to inspire people to become involved by helping the impoverished, addicted, at-risk, and broken. She uses her current experiences with husband, Steve, to inspire readers to view marriage through an eternal perspective.

Although a first-time novelist, she has prior writing experience as a ghostwriter for Carl Blunt, president of the Lifebook Movement (founded by the Gideons). She is currently a member of the American Christian Fiction Writers Association and American Christian Writer, and a previous member of the Christian Writers Guild where she wrote guest blog posts periodically. She is a past member of the Heartland of America Christian Writers Network and she has also written Vacation Bible School curriculum for First Baptist Church of New Braunfels, Texas. She currently writes for Crosswalk.com, Internet Cafe Devotions, and writes and edits for Christ to the World Ministries, an international ministry that broadcasts, via radio waves in 32 countries.

She is an award-winning author. In 2011, this contracted novel was a semifinalist in the Operation First Novel Contest.  In 2010, she won second place in the Dixie Kane writing contest (inspirational category), third place in the Christian Writers Guild Operation First Novel content, and fourth in the Golden Pen contest. Prior to that, in 2009, she won the HACWN writing contest in the book category.

Now, she spends most of her time in ministry. This high school dropout has experienced immense success, focus, and purpose. Having completed seminary classes focused on effective evangelism and discipleship, hermeneutics, Bible study methods, apologetics, conflict resolution, and the list goes on. All of which prepares her for the type of ministry she does wherever she lives.

While she has served in numerous capacities, including children’s and family ministry, she currently serves with her church’s Impact Leadership Team that mobilizes volunteers to help/or have helped in key community opportunities including:

  • Takin’ It to the Streets in Omaha (a ministry that serves Omaha’s homeless and working poor)
  • Omaha Street School
  • Essential Pregnancy Center (Bellevue, NE)
  • Northeastern Veterans Home
  • Restored Hope (a ministry serving single moms in Omaha, NE)
  • Papillion Manor and Mable Rose Nursing Home

Jennifer, is an avid reader who enjoys long, leisurely strolls with her husband, mall dates with her daughter and chatting with her girlfriends over hot, flavored milk with a hint of coffee.
