Book inspires readers to explore the heart of Micah 6:8: “Do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.”
New Hope® Publishers is pleased to announce the November 16, 2015, release of Closer to the Edge: Walking with Jesus for the World’s Sake by author Ron Ruthruff. Scholar, professor, author, and street minister, Ruthruff, asks hard questions of Christians that lead them to pause and consider how the world’s perception of Christians—therefore its perception of Christ—would change if our way of doing justice work was as important as the end result. Closer to the Edge explores the heart of what it means to do justice, love mercy, and to walk humbly in the world (Micah 6:8). The narrative style of this practical resource guides you into deeper biblical reflections and calls for action. “The way you treat the person you love the least is the way you love God the most,” says Ruthruff. That thesis will transform how you interact with the world around you . . . and, in turn, help to transform the lives you touch.
“For those seeking to be faithful in a world where diversity is at our backdoor, this book challenges believers to leave their places of comfort and to go closer to the edge where Jesus may be found. Ron’s experience in the city brings life to our theology and the way we do church. For the church to be effective, we need to recognize and embrace the reality of brokenness; Closer to the Edge helps us to do precisely that. A must read for any in the church that seek to do ministry in the world.”
—Fred J. Choy, Seattle Community Church
