SBC President Nominee David Crosby on the Power of Unleashing Compassion

New Hope® Publishers is pleased to announce the May 2, 2016, release of The Care Effect: Unleashing the Power of Compassion by David Crosby. Discover what happens when individuals and a church, corporately, begin to minster to their neighbor with intentionality, consistency, and passion. The Care Effect beautifully demonstrates how love of neighbor—the second Great Commandment—is essential to gospel proclamation, not incidental to it. Walk the streets of New Orleans with a body of believers as they show love to neighbor. Be inspired to find a way to let your deeds of love—united with words of truth—manifest the Gospel to your neighbor.

“The stories held within this book portray a man I have known for decades—a man who led his church during one of the most difficult times in history to become a true model of caring and compassion. You will be inspired by the ministry of David Crosby and the people of First Baptist New Orleans as they served, like our Lord Jesus, the hurting and displaced in the aftermath of one of the greatest storms of the century. You will be blessed and challenged by the words of Dr. David Crosby.” —Dr. Frank S. Page, president and chief executive officer of the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee

“I know of no one more qualified to write this manifesto than David Crosby. He loves this vision of holistic ministry, both evangelism and justice, to both souls and bodies. The Care Effect gives practical wisdom on how to lead gospel-driven mercy ministry. I pray that thousands will read, and heed, this wise book.” —Russell Moore, president of the Southern Baptist Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission

“David Crosby and the congregation of First Baptist New Orleans have focused on the ‘heart’ of the
Gospels . . . loving and caring unconditionally! They have been an inspiration to our city and a beacon of hope and comfort for vulnerable children and families.” —Mary Landrieu, former three-term U.S. Senator from Louisiana

“I am extremely proud and excited to publish author David Crosby’s upcoming book, The Care Effect. The inspiring stories wrapped within this volume exemplify David’s heart for missions and deep passion to help our hurting world. I am confident that every person who reads The Care Effect will come away with a heart stirred and a renewed desire to daily live on mission with God.  David’s servant leadership, demonstrated after Hurricane Katrina and for 20 years pastoring First Baptist New Orleans, amongst myriad other godly characteristics, continues to make him an integral leader in our community of faith. Having worked with David for many years, the New Hope Publishers family is pleased to hear of his nomination for president of the Southern Baptist Convention.” —Judy Patterson, publisher, New Hope Publishers

Pastor, author, and former reporter David Crosby has deployed many individuals for deeds of love. After one of the nation’s most horrific natural disasters, Hurricane Katrina, he and his church were responsible for deploying 21,000 volunteers to projects including 1,100 home recovery operations and 91 new home constructions. To this day, his church deploys approximately 100 volunteers a week in a dozen intentional ministry outlets in the city. David, author of Your Pain Is Changing You, is active in community and denominational affairs, and has received recognition and many rewards for his civic involvement. David is currently an SBC president nominee. He and his high school sweetheart, Janet Rose Crosby, live in Louisiana and have three children and eight grandchildren.
